Lib Dems call for Public Enquiry

10.02.30pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 27th Apr 2009

Blackpool Tram

In the best interests of local democracy, I hereby call for a full public enquiry into the site of the proposed new tram Depot on the Starr Gate Car park.

The principal reasons for this are as follows:

1. No proper public consultation about the proposals.

2. Lack of information & guarantees for residents in respect of the hours of operation.

3. Loss of the Car park at Starr Gate and no parking survey carried out in respect of the effect on the surrounding streets.

4. Concerns that Blackpool Council will have to operate two separate tram depots for an unforeseen period.

5. Concerns that wind & salt spray into the depot could cause major problems in the future.

6. Reduction in the amount of open space in the borough.

7. Removal of possible site for future Park & Ride for the town.

Cllr Douglas Green
